PPG SigmaCover 456 – High-Build Epoxy Coating
PPG SigmaCover 456 is a two-component, high-build, polyamide-cured epoxy coating designed for long-term protection of steel and concrete structures in both atmospheric land and marine environments. With availability in a wide range of colours including RAL, BS, NCS and NCS 2050, it offers versatile specification options for industrial and marine projects.
Engineered for performance in challenging conditions, SigmaCover 456 cures at temperatures down to -10°C and can be applied in environments with up to 95% relative humidity without compromising finish quality. Its tough, flexible film provides excellent water resistance and protection against mild chemical splash, while also ensuring strong adhesion to sound aged coatings.
Compatible with a wide range of two-component and conventional topcoats, SigmaCover 456 is ideal for both new construction and maintenance, especially where long recoat intervals are required.
Key Features:
Two-component, high-build polyamide epoxy coating
Available to be tinted (RAL, BS, NCS, NCS 2050)
Cures in cold conditions down to -10°C (14°F)
Performs in high humidity (up to 95% RH)
Excellent adhesion to aged alkyd, chlorinated rubber & epoxy coatings
Flexible, durable coating with water & mild chemical resistance
Easy to apply by air spray, brush or roller
No induction time – 6-hour pot life
Fast curing: Touch dry in 3 hours; fully cured in 7 days
Suitable for both land and marine environments
Substrate conditions
• Compatible previous coat must be dry and free from any contamination
Substrate temperature and application conditions
• Substrate temperature during application and curing down to -10°C (14°F) is acceptable; provided the substrate is free from ice and dry
• Substrate temperature during application and curing should be at least 3°C (5°F) above dew point
Mixing ratio by volume: base to hardener 82:18 (4.56:1)
• Adding too much thinner results in reduced sag resistance
• The temperature of the mixed base and hardener should be above 10°C (50°F), otherwise extra thinner may be required to obtain application viscosity
• Thinner should be added after mixing the components
