Chevron beads, also known as star or rosetta beads, were invented in the late 1400s by Maria Valovierre on the island of Murano, Italy. While Venetian bead-making techniques date back to ancient times, the chevron technique is unique to Venice. Chevron beads can have up to 10 layers, with blue being the most common color. Red, green, and black chevron beads are rarer and more sought after. The name "chevron" refers to their distinctive V-shaped pattern. Later, the technique was also adopted in the Netherlands.
