Chevron beads, known as "star beads" or "rosetta," were invented in the late 1400s by Maria Barovier on the island of Murano, Italy. While Venetian bead-making techniques often draw from ancient methods, the Chevron technique is uniquely Venetian. Chevron beads can be found with up to 10 layers, predominantly in blue, with rarer colors such as red, green, and black. These beads later began to be produced in the Netherlands as well. The name "Chevron" refers to its distinctive zigzag pattern.
