Chevron beads were invented in the late 1400s by Maria Valovaell in Murano, Italy. While Venetian bead-making techniques often draw from ancient methods, Chevron beads are unique to Venice. Chevron beads have been known to feature up to 10 layers, with blue being the most common color. Red, green, and black Chevron beads are particularly rare. The technique later spread to the Netherlands. The name "Chevron" comes from the V-shaped pattern, and these beads are also known as Star Beads or Rosetta Beads.
