For members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the 1828 Cooperstown Bible is especially significant because it is the exact edition that Joseph Smith studied and used when producing the Joseph Smith Translation (JST) of the Bible. Oliver Cowdery purchased a copy for him in 1829, and Smith used it as the textual base for his inspired revisions, clarifications, and additions to Scripture between 1830 and 1833.
