This teacup is hand wheeled of fine thin porcelain and features a hand painted doucai design. 

 These teacups were made using the doucai technique that originated in Ming Dynasty China. Doucai 斗彩 is a porcelain painting technique that uses both 釉下青花 youxia qinghua, "underglaze cobalt blue painting," and 釉上彩 youshangcai "overglaze painting" of many colours. The teacup was fired in a traditional wood kiln. Firing porcelain using wood gives the porcelain a special texture/appearance often described as "oily." However, the process requires great skill as temperature control is much more difficult. The scrap-rate for wood fired porcelain is much higher. Unlike our wood fired Yixing and Nixing Teapots, these porcelain teapots are sheltered from the wood ash in the traditional way.

This kind of porcelain is known as fanggu porcelain because it aims to revive an ancient style of porcelain. Fanggu technique is more costly and difficult to execute properly than modern styles of porcelain.
