What awaits you
Pack your bags. We’re taking you to Peru, the country where the Pacific coast meets the high Andes and ancient Inca temples sit above the clouds. Over ten days you’ll move from Lima’s world ranked food scene to Cusco’s stone streets, the breathtaking Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu itself, the legendary Rainbow Mountain, and the floating islands of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world.
This is Peru in full. Coast, mountains, and the remote shores of an ancient lake at 3,800 meters. Locally designed by people who live in Cusco and know exactly which corners of this country leave you changed.
WHAT YOU´LL LOVE
What you’ll love
Four icons. Ten days. A lifetime of stories.
Machu Picchu
Stepping into the citadel of one of the Seven Wonders of the World is the kind of moment you don’t forget. We get you there by panoramic train, no hiking required, with a local expert guide who knows every stone.
The Sacred Valley
A landscape so beautiful the Incas built their empire around it. Salt mines carved into the mountainside, terraced ruins still rising above living villages, and the slow rhythm of Andean life that hasn’t changed in centuries.
Rainbow Mountain
At 5,200 meters, Vinicunca is one of Earth’s most surreal landscapes. Slopes painted in stripes of red, ochre, green, and turquoise by ancient mineral oxidation, only revealed to the world in 2015 when the snow that covered them began to melt.
Lake Titicaca
The highest navigable lake in the world at 3,812 meters, shared between Peru and Bolivia, where the Uros people still live on islands they weave themselves from totora reeds and the inhabitants of Taquile preserve a way of life recognized by UNESCO.

Ankunft in Lima
› Arrival and private transfer › Welcome dinner with traditional dance show › Overnight in Miraflores
Welcome to Peru.
You’ll be met at Jorge Chávez International Airport by your private driver and taken to your hotel in Miraflores, Lima’s coastal district facing the Pacific Ocean. The neighborhood is safe, walkable, and lined with cafés, parks, and ocean viewpoints if you arrive early enough to stretch your legs. In the evening, we kick things off properly with a five course tasting menu of Peruvian cuisine paired with a traditional dance show featuring Marinera, Festejo, and Andean folklore. It’s your official welcome to a country that takes its food and culture very seriously, and a chance to meet your local team before the journey begins.

Lima to Cusco
› Breakfast at the hotel › Domestic flight to Cusco › Acclimatization day at leisure
Onwards and upwards.
A short morning flight takes you up to Cusco at 3,400 meters above sea level. Your driver will be waiting at the airport and your hotel check in is ready early so you can rest. The rest of the day is yours to acclimatize gently, and that’s not a throwaway recommendation: how you spend Day 2 has more impact on the rest of your trip than most travelers expect. We suggest a slow walk around the Plaza de Armas, a coca tea at one of the cafés overlooking the square, and an early dinner at a restaurant close to your hotel. Avoid alcohol, heavy meals, and any strenuous activity today. Drink twice the water you normally would and turn in early. Your body will thank you tomorrow.

Stadtrundfahrt durch Cusco
› Breakfast at the hotel › Half day guided tour of four Inca sites › Afternoon free
Where the Inca Empire ruled from.
Today you visit the four major Inca archaeological sites that surround the city. We begin at Sacsayhuamán, the massive ceremonial fortress whose stone walls fit together so precisely that not even a blade can slide between them. From there we continue to Qenqo, an underground ritual site carved entirely from a single rock outcrop, then Puca Pucara, the small red fortress that once controlled access to the imperial capital, and finally Tambomachay, the elegant water temple where the Incas worshipped the springs that flowed from the mountain. Your afternoon is free to explore the bohemian neighborhood of San Blas, browse the textiles at San Pedro Market, or settle into a long lunch with a view of the red rooftops.
04
TAG
Sacred Valley and train to Machu Picchu
› Breakfast and buffet lunch › Pisac market and ruins › Ollantaytambo › Train to Aguas Calientes
One of the most beautiful drives in Peru.
We head into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a long fertile corridor running between the snow capped peaks of the Andes. The day begins with the colorful market and terraced ruins of Pisac, where Andean weavers still work in the same patterns their ancestors used. After a buffet lunch with valley views in Urubamba, we continue to Ollantaytambo, the only Inca town in Peru still inhabited today on the same street grid the Incas built. In the late afternoon, we board the train that winds through the cloud forest along the Urubamba River until reaching Aguas Calientes, the small town at the foot of Machu Picchu where you’ll spend the night.

TAG
Machu Picchu
› Early breakfast › Bus to the citadel › Guided tour according to assigned circuit › Train back to Cusco
The day you came for.
An early bus winds up the switchbacks of the mountain and into Machu Picchu itself, ideally before the morning crowds. Your local expert guide will lead you through the available circuit on the day of your visit. Since 2024, the Peruvian Ministry of Culture has assigned visitors to specific circuits according to capacity and conservation rotation, and we secure the best one available at the time of your booking. Whichever route you walk, you’ll see the temples, the agricultural terraces, the royal residences, and the heart stopping panoramic views that have made this one of the most photographed places on the planet. Time after the guided tour to absorb it all on your own. Train back to Ollantaytambo in the afternoon, then private transfer to Cusco.
06
TAG
Rainbow Mountain
› Early light breakfast › Trek to 5,200 meters › Buffet lunch on return
Earth doesn’t usually look like this.
A pre dawn pickup around 4:00 am takes you southeast into the Cusipata region. After a light breakfast en route, you’ll begin the trek up to Vinicunca, the famous Rainbow Mountain, at 5,200 meters above sea level. The hike itself takes around two hours uphill at altitude, with horses available if you’d rather ride part of the way. The summit views are exactly as wild as they look in photographs, with the mineral striped slopes stretching to the horizon and the Ausangate glacier looming behind. Buffet lunch on the descent and return to Cusco late afternoon, with time for one last dinner in town.
If the high altitude or the early start sounds intense, ask us about Palccoyo, our gentler alternative with three rainbow mountains, lower elevation, and an easier walk for the same price.

Cusco to Puno on the Titicaca Train
› Breakfast at the hotel › Scenic train across the Andes on PeruRail Titicaca Train › Onboard lunch and afternoon tea › Live entertainment and observation car › Arrival in Puno
One of the great train journeys of the world.
Today you cross the high Andes on the PeruRail Titicaca Train, one of the most scenic rail journeys on Earth. The train departs Cusco in the morning and reaches its highest point at La Raya pass at 4,335 meters, the natural border between the Cusco and Puno regions. Onboard you’ll travel in elegant Pullman style carriages with panoramic windows, an open air observation car at the back of the train, a dining car serving a gourmet three course lunch and afternoon tea, and live Peruvian music throughout the journey. The landscape unfolds slowly: Andean villages, snow capped peaks, herds of alpacas grazing on the altiplano, and small Quechua communities still living the traditional way. You’ll arrive in Puno in the early evening with time to settle into your hotel and rest before the next day on the lake.

TAG
Lake Titicaca
› Breakfast at the hotel › Full day boat tour › Lunch on Taquile Island
The highest navigable lake in the world.
Early breakfast and transfer to the port of Puno, where your private boat is waiting. The first stop is the famous Uros floating islands, hand built from totora reeds by a community that has lived on the water for centuries. You’ll walk on the spongy reed surface, see how the islands are constructed, and meet the families who still call them home. The boat then continues to Taquile Island, recognized by UNESCO for its living textile tradition where men do the knitting and women weave. A traditional lunch is served on the island with sweeping views of the lake. Late afternoon return to Puno.

TAG
Puno to Lima
› Breakfast at the hotel › Transfer to Juliaca airport › Domestic flight to Lima › Afternoon and evening at leisure in Lima
Back to the coast.
Morning transfer to Juliaca airport, about an hour from Puno, for your domestic flight to Lima. Once in Lima, you’ll be met by your driver and transferred to your hotel in Miraflores. Your afternoon and evening are free to revisit the city with new eyes after ten days in the mountains. We recommend a long late lunch at a top ranked Peruvian restaurant, an unhurried walk along the Malecón cliffs at sunset, or a final pisco sour in Barranco, Lima’s bohemian neighborhood.

FAQs
Our travelers come from across the United States, so we leave international flights to you for maximum flexibility on dates, airlines, and miles redemptions. We’re happy to recommend the best routings to Lima from your home airport.
Most US passport holders do not need a tourist visa for stays up to 183 days in Peru. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your travel date and have at least one blank page for entry stamps. Always confirm requirements with your nearest Peruvian consulate before departure.
Cusco sits at 3,400 meters and Rainbow Mountain reaches 5,200 meters. Most travelers experience some mild symptoms during the first 24 hours, including light headache, shortness of breath, or fatigue. Day 2 of our itinerary is built specifically as an acclimatization day for this reason. We recommend coca tea, light meals, plenty of water, and avoiding alcohol. If you have heart, lung, or blood pressure conditions, please consult your doctor before booking.
Since 2024 the Peruvian Ministry of Culture assigns Machu Picchu visitors to one of several circuits. We secure the best available circuit at the moment of your booking and confirm the exact assignment 30 days before arrival. We always guarantee entry and a complete guided tour with one of our local expert guides.
The PeruRail Titicaca Train takes approximately ten hours, departing Cusco around 7:00 am and arriving Puno around 6:00 pm. Lunch and afternoon tea are served onboard with vegetarian and gluten free menus available on request. The train runs three to four times per week depending on the season.
Puno does not have its own commercial airport. Juliaca’s Inca Manco Cápac International Airport is about an hour from Puno by road and is the standard regional gateway. The transfer to the airport is included in your package.
Light layers since mornings are cold and afternoons warm, a warm jacket for higher altitudes, comfortable walking shoes with good grip, sunscreen and sunglasses, a hat or cap, a reusable water bottle, a small day backpack, a rain jacket, and a power adapter. Peru uses Type A and Type C plugs at 220 volts.
Yes. The itinerary is designed to be physically manageable for travelers in good general health. Rainbow Mountain on Day 6 is the most demanding portion of the trip, and we offer Palccoyo as a gentler alternative. Children must be at least 6 years old for Machu Picchu and 8 years old for Rainbow Mountain due to altitude considerations.
Cusco airport occasionally closes due to fog, especially in the early morning during the rainy season from December to March. LATAM will rebook you on the next available flight at no extra cost. If a delay affects your itinerary, our 24/7 operations team adjusts services automatically and we communicate updates directly to you.
Cancellation policy
- More than 60 days before arrival, full refund minus a 150 dollar administrative fee per traveler
- Between 30 and 60 days before arrival, 50% refund
- Less than 30 days before arrival, non refundable
We strongly recommend travel insurance covering trip cancellation, medical evacuation, and lost luggage.
Daily departures.
This program runs 365 days a year subject to availability of flights, hotels, train tickets, and Machu Picchu permits. We recommend booking at least 45 to 60 days in advance for high season from June to August, and 20 to 30 days in advance for low season. Note that the PeruRail Andean Explorer Cusco to Puno train operates three to four times per week, which may slightly adjust your start date.
