A side panel inscription (unknown hand) reads: “Oct. 20th 1928 Reading PA” — just 11 days after he and the New York Yankees swept the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1928 World Series, during a well-documented stop along the famed Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Barnstorming Tour. Of course, in addition to signing this baseball, Ruth thrilled the crowd with a towering home run that special day.

Quality Ruth singles are the blue-chip standard in sports memorabilia. Those signed during the prime of his Hall of Fame career in the late 1920s — like this one — are significantly scarcer than the more common examples signed post-retirement in the late 1930s and 1940s.
