CEM SHIELD

DESCRIPTION

Cem Shield is a 2 component elastomeric waterproof and moisture barrier coating with added fibre.

PRINCIPLE USES

Cem Shield is highly elastic with exceptional adhesion properties that can be used to waterproof;
▪ Concrete structures, storage tanks, pipes, basements, water canals, bridges and both internal and external walls and floors against hydrostatic pressures
▪ Moisture barrier for concrete coatings
▪ Balconies, showers and under tiled applications
▪ Water features, fountains, swimming pools, ponds and sewage treatment plants
▪ Protection of new and old exposed concrete against carbonation, chloride and sulphate attack

SURFACE PREPARATION

Concrete- must be structurally sound. Remove all oil, grease, paint, corrosion, dust and surface deposits. This can be done by wire brush, water jetting or sand blasting, the substrate must be dry or slightly wet. Deep voids, cracks and spalling must first be repaired. Consult with your local representative about our range of repair mortars.

LIMITATIONS

Do not apply if surface temperatures is below 9ºC Avoid excessive heat 35ºC and higher Relative air humidity of <75% RH Protect freshly placed coating against direct sunlight, heavy winds and rain for 24hours Cem Shield will cure slower in humid conditions

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

Cem Shield must be mixed mechanically. Pour the liquid part into a mixing container, then slowly add the powder component whilst stirring with a low speed paddle drill. Add powder until desired consistency is achieved. Mix for 3 minutes ensuring the mixture is uniform, smooth with no lumps. A maximum of 200ml water can be added to adjust the consistency.

APPLICATION

Keep substrate moist during application. Cem Shield can be applied by trowel, roller, brush or mechanical spray equipment. Apply at a maximum Thickness of 1,5mm per coat.

METHOD

Apply 2 x sealing coats and one tack coat The two sealing coats must be applied at right angle. Ensure that 1st coat is completely dry before applying the 2 nd coat, usually 2 to 4 hours. Leave sealing coats to dry for 48 hours then apply tack coat. Use membrane to cover cracks or highly stressed areas embedded into the base coat mortar. All water retaining structures leave for 7 days before adding water

YIELD

At a consumption rate of 1,5 to 2,5kg per m² the yield per 15kg kit will be between 6 to 10m²

SAFETY & HANDLING

Wear dust masks when mixing. Use gloves, eye protection at all times. Should the product come into contact with eyes, wash immediately and seek medical advice.

SHELF LIFE & STORAGE

12 months when stored in a cool dry place, failure to comply with these recommendations will result in a reduction in shelf life.
