For sale here is a Maxwell era Leonard; Model 49-5 bamboo rod -- 7 1/2 feet, 3/2, for a 5 weight line. Serial number 8099 made in 1980. The rod is in near mint original condition. All sections are full length and straight. The rod features beautiful straw colored cane, transparent honey colored wraps with dark cinnamon tipping at the winding check, and tip-tops. Burgundy tipping at the ferrules. Oxidized hardware throughout. Tips are marked one and two with dots. The characteristic Maxwell script on the rod remains clear and bold. Handsome swelled butt. Ring hook-keeper. Sculpted, blued nickel silver winding check. Cigar grip. Blued nickel-silver cap and ring reel seat with a highly figured mortised tiger maple spacer.  Ferrules are size 15/64 and 9/64. The fit is perfect. The rod weighs in at 4.10 oz. 

The action is on the faster side of medium-fast, thanks in part to the swelled butt. The rod is quite smooth and balances very well. Though it would excel at fishing dries it is a versatile rod. Includes original bag and original tube with fine brass fittings.
