Struck at the Rome mint between 96 and 98 AD, this silver denarius was issued under Emperor Nerva, who came to power following the assassination of Domitian and marked the beginning of the Nerva-Antonine dynasty. The obverse features a sharp laureate head of Nerva facing right, with the legend IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR P COS III P P, which stands for "Imperator Nerva Caesar Augustus, Pontifex Maximus, Tribune of the People, Consul for the third time, Father of the Nation." Despite his short reign, Nerva’s coinage emphasized stability, experience, and a return to senatorial cooperation, which is clearly echoed in the dignified, restrained portrait style of this issue. The coin is graded gVF (good Very Fine), showing excellent detail on both sides with clear legends and well-preserved surfaces.

The reverse presents Libertas, the personification of liberty, standing left and holding a pileus (the cap of a freed slave) and a staff, with the inscription LIBERTAS PVBLICA. This type boldly reflects one of the core themes of Nerva’s brief rule: the restoration of civil liberties and legal rights after the autocratic excesses of Domitian. The imagery served as a direct political message, reassuring the Roman public and Senate of a more open and just regime.
