This large-scale paper artwork explores the concepts of destruction and erosion. Artist Purdey Fitzherbert is influenced by the Japanese tradition of wabi-sabi, which promotes an acceptance of the transience and imperfection in nature. She uses naturally occurring pigments or found materials to apply colour to handmade Japanese papers that are cut and layered to create the finished artwork. The unique and experimental outcomes celebrate the unexpected nature of the alchemical processes she applies.
