The Gooderham Building (commonly referred to as the Flatiron Building) is a historic landmark of Toronto, Ontario, Canada located at at Wellington Street East. It is wedged between Front Street and Wellington Street. It was completed in 1892 and is an iconic and oft photographed Toronto vista. I've done many artistic shots of this building and this one is perhaps my favourite because it was one of my first artistic creations and because I was really excited to be able to get close enough to take in the entire building plus the downtown towers and and the sky (I had tried many times before and it never quite worked). The day was cold and bright so I was very happy with my artistic treatment that turned it into a painting of this much loved Toronto landmark. I also have a large canvas in my own hallway. It makes me happy every time I look at it and each time there is something new that's full of meaning - it's one of the first  buildings I saw when I came to Toronto and it's the most iconic Toronto landmark I have shot.

 A bit of trivia, which you can also read on my blog. The previous building was much shorter, but same shape, and was called the Coffin Block. The current Flatiron Gooderham building originally cost just $18,000 to construct for distiller George Gooderham, son of Gooderham and Worts distillery founder William Gooderham. It was the office of the Gooderham & Worts distillery until 1952, and sold by the Gooderham Estate in 1957(ref: Wikipedia). With all the bland condos going up in Toronto having this artwork is both poignant and important.
