The Megger 6111-356 vessel with cylindrical electrodes has a 0.5L capacity, is designed for use with the Megger OTS60SX Semi-Automatic Oil Test Set (sold separately), and complies with ASTM D877 specifications.  Oil dielectric strength tests detect changes in the electrical properties of oil. The electrical properties of oil make it an effective insulating medium and coolant in transformers and other electrical equipment. Overtime, the oil can degrade due to oxidation, acids, sludge, gases, and water absorption, and as a result the desired electrical properties weaken and oil breakdown occurs. The breakdown in the insulating properties of oil is a contributing factor to overall electrical breakdown and transformer failure. Performing oil dielectric strength tests is an important part of maintaining electrical installations.
