What is a media kit? How is it different than stock solutions?

UTEX Media Kits come with pre-measured, ready-to-use components. Unlike stock solutions, there is no need to prepare and/or dilute concentrated reagents for each individual chemical at precise ratios. Simply follow the included instructions to create the large volume of media—precision without the hassle of extra preparation.

Do the media kits include stock solutions?

No. UTEX Media Kits do not include concentrated stock solutions for each individual chemical component of a medium. Compatible chemicals have been pre-measured and combined to not only make preparation easier, but also reduce packaging and shipping costs. 

What if I want individual stock solutions?

Each culture medium page includes a recipe that, when applicable, provides instructions for preparing stock solutions and how much to add. Because some components aren’t suitable for stock solutions, related instructions are provided only when applicable.

Directions

For 100L Total Volume

1. Obtain and wear the appropriate PPE.
2. To approximately 97 Liters (97,000 mL) of dH₂O, add the first three solutions (Components #1-3) in order while stirring.
3. Bring total volume to 100 Liters (100,000 mL) with dH₂O.
4. Cover and autoclave or filter-sterilize if non-sterile water was used.
5. When cooled, aseptically add Component #4.
6. Store at refrigerator temperatures.
