Edo Kiriko, a traditional craft designated by the government, is a traditional craft of Tokyo's downtown area that has been around since the Edo period.
Using their skilled techniques, artisans melt the glass at 1,350 degrees and create a double structure of clear and colored glass, then carefully cut (grind) each piece of glass.
By cutting the glass, the transparent glass inside becomes visible through the colored glass on the surface, and the wonderful contrast between the transparent and colored glass is highlighted by the traditional patterns and flower kiriko designs.
