During the Hemanta season, the cowherd girls (Gopikas) worshipped Goddess Katyayani (Durga), praying for Krishna as their husband.

• As per their routine, the Gopikas went to bathe in the Yamuna River, leaving their clothes on the riverbank. Krishna secretly stole their clothes and climbed up a tree to watch.
• The Gopikas, realizing their clothes were missing, lamented and begged Krishna to return them. Krishna, teasing them, told them to come up and take back their clothes.
• The Gopikas, feeling embarrassed, climbed up to Krishna, and he returned their clothes. This act was a lesson from Krishna to show that their desire for him was like materialistic desire.
• Krishna taught the Gopikas that, as the Supreme God, they must shed their egos and materialistic desires to achieve true union with him, emphasizing spiritual purity over worldly attachment.
