Melbourne artist Kate Rohde uses hand modelling and casting techniques to produce discreet functional and sculptural objects. Inspired by historical decorative arts, Rohde loves Baroque, Rococo and Art Nouveau. Her pieces at AGWA include bold statement vases, sculptures and maximalist jewellery created in food-safe resin. Fascinated with intense colours, Rohde's various skills and interests have seen her work in several creative arenas, including collaborating with Australian fashion house, Romance was Born on its Renaissance Dinosaur collection in 2010.

Initially created for the Siren Songs exhibition at Pieces of Eight in 2021, this design was later crafted in ceramic to serve more practically as a candleholder. The resin version works beautifully as a small bud vase for miniature floral displays.
