Supports baby's immune development and prevention of atopy (allergy and eczema). 20 billion LGG has demonstrated benefits for childhood atopy and immune development.⁶ The highly researched LGG shows both dose-dependent efficacy and a reduction in atopy (allergy and eczema) when taken in the last trimester and during infancy.^7,8,9

Promotes the growth of infant commensal flora populations. Maternal gut microbiota has a significant impact on infant microbiome and health. Commensal microbiota colonisation is initiated by contact with vaginal microflora during birth, and matures under breast milk and environmental influences. Probiotic strains are transferred from mother to infant via human colostrum and milk during breastfeeding, providing a continuous supply of commensal and potential probiotic bacteria to the infant gut.¹¹

Assists behavioural complaints in later childhood (when taken during pregnancy and infancy). A randomised control trial (RCT) of 159 mother-baby pairs taking 10 billion LGG daily (prenatally until 6 months) found by 13 years an absence of behavioural complaints, compared to 17% of the control group.¹²

Maternal glucose metabolism. Up to 10% of pregnant women experience glucose transport problems.¹⁴ An RCT of 10 billion CFU of BB-12 and LGG was shown to assist maternal glucose metabolism during pregnancy,¹⁵ while 2011 research found that LGG and BB-12 reduced the occurrence of weight gain following childbirth.¹⁶
