Clinical Benefits:

• The combination of blackcurrant, lutein and zeaxanthin has been clinically shown to aid the recovery of eye strain and visual fatigue after strenuous computer tasks. The mechanism by which blackcurrant may assist in relief of eye strain, is through its antioxidant actions; promoting dark adaptation and regeneration of the rod visual pigment rhodopsin.
• Macular pigment density: An observational study has found supplementing with lutein significantly increases macular pigment density in the elderly. Low levels of lutein have been inversely associated with eye health, presumably through a reduced capacity to quench free radicals in the macula.
