The Shurflo Standard Utility Pump 8050-305-526 is a high-performance diaphragm pump specifically engineered for the "tough" jobs that would destroy standard freshwater pumps. It is a favorite for oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and RV winterization.
Unlike basic water pumps, the 8000 series is built to handle the higher viscosity and chemical makeup of oils and coolants.
Self-Priming Power: The pump can vertically lift fluids up to 7 feet, allowing it to pull heavy oil directly out of a dipstick tube or an engine bilge without needing to be "pre-filled" with liquid.
Buna-N Components: The internal valves and diaphragm are made from Buna-N (Nitrile), which provides excellent resistance to petroleum products, ensuring the internals won't swell or degrade over time.
Thermal Protection: The 12V DC motor is equipped with an internal thermal breaker. If the fluid is too thick and causes the motor to overheat, the pump will automatically shut off to prevent permanent damage and restart once it has cooled.
Dry-Running Safety: It can run dry for extended periods without damage, which is critical when you are reaching the end of an oil extraction and the pump begins to pull air.
This model is often sold as a "Standard Utility Pump" because it serves multiple roles:
Oil Extraction: Includes a specialized 1/4" and 5/16" probe kit that slides down most engine dipstick tubes to suck oil directly from the pan.
Winterizing: Its 3/8" NPT ports allow you to easily adapt it for pumping antifreeze through boat or RV plumbing lines.
Fluid Transfer: Moves 1.5 Gallons Per Minute, which is the "sweet spot" for precision—fast enough to finish the job quickly, but controlled enough to avoid messy overflows.
Flow Rate: 1.5 GPM [5.6 LPM]
Voltage: 12V DC (4.0 Amps max)
Port Size: 3/8" NPT Female
Max Liquid Temp: 130°F [54°C]
Included Accessories: Typically comes with a hose kit and adapters for immediate use in common applications.
Dimensions: 6.1" x 4.4" x 3.7" [155 x 112 x 94 mm]
Part Number: 8050-305-526
Ideal for marine, RV, and general utility applications, the Shurflo Standard Utility Pump delivers dependable performance backed by Shurflo and Pentair engineering.
Installation Tip: When using this pump for oil changes, ensure the oil is warm (not hot) to lower its viscosity, which will allow the pump to move the fluid more efficiently and reduce strain on the motor.
To ensure the longest life for your utility pump, always run the engine for a few minutes before an oil change. Warm oil (approx. 100°F–120°F) has a much lower viscosity, which allows the pump to work significantly faster and with less electrical strain.
