For sale here is a San Francisco era Winston bamboo fly rod - 9'3" 5 1/2 oz. 2/1. Serial no. 8252. Made by Doug Merrick and Gary Howells in 1958. The rod is in excellent original condition. All sections are full length. Pumpkin-toned cane. The rod features beige wraps with burgundy tipping at the winding check, signature wrap, ferrules, and tip-top. Bright guides. Bronzed ring hook keeper. Handsome, sculpted bakelite winding check. The full wells grip is soiled as one would expect but free of any major defect. There is very light ridging as well. Down-locking, bright aluminum reel seat with a classic Winston bakelite spacer. The ferrules are size 16/64, the fit is perfect. The rod weighs 5 3/8 oz. on our digital scale.
