Sapphire gold band. Historically, rings have been one of the most intimate types of jewel, serving the unique function of marking people’s commitment to each other in marriage, as well as commemorating births, deaths, political, religious and ideological beliefs, and the romantic sentiments of lovers across physical and social distances. This ring is no exception. Its interior is inscribed A.O.Connor from Granny 13 Sept 1896, dated September 1896. This late Victorian jewel in buttery yellow gold is claw-set with a charming light blue unheated Sri Lankan sapphire in a particularly attractive octagonal step-cut - a rare and unusual shape for sapphires in this period, more commonly reserved for emeralds.

Why I love it...
“ The bold simplicity of this ring is fabulous. The buttery-gold wide band centres a beautifully coloured sapphire. This ring is incredibly versatile - it looks so smart on the hand. ”
