From the Höllenbrand vineyard in Gundersheim, Wittmann's 2018 Spätburgunder Reserve opens with remarkably fine, deep and juicy aromas of cherry and ripe black berry intertwined with with toasty and even some (attractive) Port notes. On the palate, this is an intense, full-bodied, well-concentrated and juicy, fresh and firmly structured red with a long, intense, tightly woven and even salty finish. The tannins are ripe, fine and well integrated into this charmingly intense and concentrated wine. Excellent and very promising. To be bottled in summer and to be released in September this year. Tasted as a sample in March and April 2020.
