Sol-silicate based, pigment-free additive for KEIM Design-Lasur. Used as thinner for KEIM Design-Lasur to achieve translucent colour designs. For interior and exterior application. KEIM Design-Base allows transparent and mineral matt, low-pigment finishes together with ideal application consistency, reduced settling and weather-resistant layer thicknesses.

With one up to three coatings of KEIM Design-Lasur with KEIM Design-Base various translucency effects can be achieved. The application of only one colour shade but in different dilution ratios also provides very decorative effects.

Using KEIM Design-Base as an additive in KEIM DesignLasur makes it possible to achieve transparent, mineral matt low-pigment finishes together with ideal application consistency, reduced settling, weather-resistant film thicknesses and a longer open time.

Preparation & Application

Substrate Preparation
The substrate has to be free from dust and grease, dry and absorbent. Loose parts, dirt and old, adhesion-reducing coatings have to be removed. For a homogenous, ideally absorbing base, the substrate should be prepared with two siliceous base coatings (preferably by brush).

Translucent Coating
For low-pigment coatings mix KEIM Design-Lasur with KEIM Design-Base up to the desired degree of translucency. Dilutions in any ratio are possible. Mixing ratios from 1:5 up to 1:20 have been proven. (For very transparent designs and for designs with full colour shades, it is recommended to dilute with KEIM Design-Fixativ.) Keep stirring the Lasur mix well before and during work. Water or other products must not be added. The Lasur mix is applied cross-wise with a Lasur brush (e.g. the oval KEIM Lasur brush). It is important to work swiftly wet-on-wet and to keep a wet edge.

Note
The components of the Design-Lasur-System KEIM DesignLasur, KEIM Design-Base and KEIM Design-Fixativ can be mixed among each other at any desired ratio. KEIM DesignBase provides an attractive transparency with ideal application consistency and film thickness. KEIM Design-Fixativ allows most translucent, brilliant designs with thin film thickness.

Application Conditions
Air and substrate temperature > 5°C up to max. 30°C. Apply only to dry surfaces and in dry weather. Do not apply under direct sun, on sun-heated substrates or in strong wind. Surfaces have to be protected after application from rain, wind and direct sun.

Drying Times
Between the individual coatings a drying time of about 12 hours is required.

Consumption
Depending on the dilution ratio and per coat: Approx. 100 ml/m² prepared mix of Design-Lasur and Design-Base. The consumption value given is a guide value depending on the desired translucency effect, application method and substrate condition. Exact values may only be given by a trial application on site.

Clean tools with water immediately after use.
