Mat Pilates Level 1 Instructor Course by Suna Pilates

Our globally recognised Pilates Instructor Training Qualifications begin with Mat Pilates Level 1. There are no prerequisites for you to join this Pilates training course as we will teach you everything you need to know.

You can attend this course in our Auckland studio or online via Zoom. To find out whether there is availability for a particular course date, please email us or call us on 09 489 1987. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place, and full payment must be made two weeks before the course begins. The course must be attended within 12 months of purchase.

A FREE 4-week membership to Suna Pilates is included with your course. Also included is the opportunity to observe a Suna Pilates instructor teaching an equipment-based mat Pilates class.

With a Pilates Mat Qualification you can:

• Get employment in a Pilates studio (maybe even at Suna!)
• Use a Pilates qualification recognised globally - take your skills with you
• Create your own mat Pilates classes and a timetable that works for your lifestyle, teach Pilates one on one at home, or offer larger classes
• Work as many or as few hours as you want, with total flexibility

Once you graduate you will be able to:

• Teach fundamental mat Pilates exercises understanding the exercises theoretically and physically
• Verbalise exercises with versatility
• Correct postures, principles and exercises effectively and safely
• Modify exercises for a given client and teach workouts specific to a client's needs
• Develop the knowledge and understanding that are needed to safely teach and adjust basic level Pilates classes

Learning modules covered in this Pilates Instructor Training course:

1. Pilates - Understand what Pilates is and comprehensively explain it to others
2. Posture - Understand and recognize the basic postures and their corrections
3. Pilates Postural Principles - Understand and teach the Pilates postural principles with some versatility to correct client posture
4. Essential Mat Exercises - Understand theoretically and physically the mat Pilates Level 1 repertoire
5. Clinical Considerations - Understand the basic issues and injuries you may come across and strategies for dealing with them
6. Session Construction - Understand how to construct and run a balanced, flowing mat session for individuals and groups
7. Teaching Practices - Apply the principles to the exercises safely

Course times:  Saturday and Sunday 8am - 5:30pm with 30 minute lunch breaks - a total 18 hours of Pilates training. 

Exam: On completion of the 2-day course, you will have approximately one month to practice what you've learned before sitting your exam. When you are ready, you will request your exam sheet and then video yourself teaching a small group of friends or family members the prescribed exercises for a 45-minute class. You'll then send us your video for grading.
