. Yes, Salmon skins can be tanned into lovely, soft leather, and no, the leather is not hard or fragile. The end product is a curiously beautifully textured skin, suitable for making clothing, bags, shoes, sheaths, hats, journal covers, jewellery, etc. Learning the art of tanning and making leather continues to be a Holy Grail Quest for many, but during this Masterclass you will not only learn how to fat-tan, but also how to veg- or bark tan a skin. These processes are very different, both in method, materials and duration. You will scrape, clean and prepare your own salmon skins; one for fat tanning and one for bark tanning. You will learn about skin layers, make your own tanning solution, curing and soften skins effectively. You will learn how to recognize and correct problems. Every aspect of all stages will be explained and handled as you work on your skins. Please bring a notebook for all your newfound knowledge and some clothes which you do not mind smelling of salmon afterward
