This traditional Ndebele choker is called a Dzila. It was tradtionally worn by married women whose husbands had built a home for them. The ring symbolised their bond and faithfulness to their husbands. The more rings a woman wore, the richer her husband. These days it is worn with elegant outfits at weddings and engagement parties as well as formal and casual fashion events.
