Relief of digestive discomfort. Digestex provides digestive support with traditional western herbs to relieve symptoms such as bloating and stomach discomfort. Meadowsweet, traditionally used to soothe and protect the gastrointestinal tract is combined with carminative and anti-spasmodic herbs to help relieve intestinal spasm by relaxing intestinal muscles.

Stimulation of digestive secretions with bitter herbs such as dandelion and gentian. Gentian has traditionally been given orally to increase saliva, gastric and bile secretions. Bitter herbs do not need to be tasted to stimulate upper digestive function as they activate taste receptors (TASR2) located throughout the gastrointestinal tract. TASR2 hormonal and neuronal signalling may affect the secretion of pancreatic enzymes and bile helping to regulate stomach function and acid production.

Digestive motility. Ginger stimulates antral contractions, reduces postprandial antral area, and accelerates gastric emptying. Animal studies indicate that ginger contains a combination of spasmogenic (cholinergic) and spasmolytic (calcium antagonist) constituents to support gastric motility and aid digestion.

Part of the Metagenics Detoxification Program. Digestex contains the traditional liver herb dandelion to assist digestive processes, and ginger to assist gastric motility for improved digestive transit time. Activation of gastrointestinal bitter receptors is thought to indirectly improve the elimination of absorbed toxins from the gut epithelium.
