Checkmate is a special rhododendron cultivar as it has unique dark green to bronze foliage, which makes an exceptional canvas for it's vibrant spring blooms. This dwarf PJM descendant has an attractive compact growth habit, so it's excellent for rock gardens, container growing, accents, and small growing areas. You will want to plant it in well-draining soil, and full sun to partial shade. Checkmate is hardy to 5°F when protected from windchill.
