King Sagar's Sons' Mission: King Sagar's sixty thousand sons were sent on a mission to retrieve a sacred horse for the Ashwamedha Yajna (horse sacrifice) but got lost in their search.
Encounter with Sage Kapil: During their journey, they stumbled upon Sage Kapil, who was meditating. Not recognizing him, they wrongly suspected him of stealing the sacred horse.
Accusations and Disruption: The sons of King Sagar accused Sage Kapil of theft and rudely interrupted his deep meditation, which enraged the sage.
Sage Kapil's Anger: In his fury at the false accusations and the disturbance to his meditation, Sage Kapil cursed the sons and incinerated them with his divine power, turning them to ashes.
Consequences and Salvation: The souls of King Sagar’s sons were trapped and could not reach peace. Their salvation could only be achieved when King Sagar’s descendant, Bhagirath, brought Goddess Ganga to Earth, which cleansed their souls.
