Course Description:
Safe manual handling is an important part of life for everyone, but it’s especially important for those working in the care sector. The types of manual handling tasks that staff might use during their work day include lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling and holding. If these manual handling tasks are performed incorrectly or unsafely, it puts both the staff member and the individual at risk of serious injury.
It is essential that staff can safely move the people they support, following the individual’s care plan and applying best practice manual handling principles. This includes using the appropriate equipment, such as a stand-up or full sling hoist, to minimise risk to the person and the staff member. Staff must always complete the task with the person, not for the person, in order to maintain dignity and independence.
This engaging, high-quality video-based training module delivers practical, evidence-based techniques designed to support two key outcomes: maintaining client independence and mobility, while safeguarding carers from injury. Multiple aims and outcomes will be delivered as separate modules. Through immersive scenario-based content, staff gain the skills and confidence to apply safe, effective manual handling practices in real-world aged care settings.
Course Aim:
Safe manual handling protects both the person being supported to move and the staff providing support. This course outlines the principles of manual handling and how they apply to moving people in the care and support setting.
