What Is the BEDALE?
The “BEDALE” is one of Barbour’s most iconic models. Created in 1980 by current chairwoman Dame Margaret Barbour, it was inspired by the short jackets popular in France at the time and designed specifically for horseback riding.

It inherits design elements from the 1960s “SOLWAY ZIPPER” hunting jacket but evolved into a more compact and functional form suited for equestrian wear.







Refined Two-Layer Fabric
Constructed from a cotton–polyester blend with a water-resistant film backing, this two-layer fabric offers a crisp texture and subtle sheen. The non-oiled material ensures a smooth, clean touch — free from the stickiness or scent of traditional waxed cotton — while maintaining a high level of water resistance and comfort.



The body lining features 100% cotton in Barbour’s signature tartan pattern — a traditional Scottish plaid that conveys a sense of timeless sophistication. The sleeves are lined with smooth polyester for easy layering and a comfortable fit.





Functional and Elegant Details
The collar is made from fine corduroy, and the chin strap can be fastened on windy days for added protection. It’s a practical detail that enhances both warmth and the jacket’s classic charm.





The front closure combines Barbour’s signature heavy-duty double zip with a snap-button storm flap, adding durability and a traditional touch.



Underarm ventilation eyelets enhance breathability and prevent moisture buildup, while inner ribbed cuffs block wind and retain warmth.



The slash pockets are positioned for easy hand insertion, and there is also large flap pockets with a gusset for added capacity. Inside, a left chest pocket provides additional space — enough to carry small essentials without the need for a bag.







A Versatile, Updated Fit
Refined from last year’s slim silhouette, this version offers a relaxed fit that layers comfortably over tailored jackets or blousons. The length is precisely balanced — long enough to cover a suit jacket hem while maintaining clean, modern lines.





Compatible with the separately sold “Zip Liner Vest,” which can be attached as an inner layer for added warmth.
