This kit combines three Godox AD400Pro II battery flashes with a 90 cm parabolic softbox and grid, two 30×90 cm strip softboxes with grids, robust 3 m C-stands, a reclined boom stand, and an XPROII TTL radio trigger.
It’s built specifically for equestrian photography – from dynamic ridden portraits and jumping sequences to polished yard, stable and owner portraits where you want proper studio control outdoors.
Equestrian photographers who want a reliable three-light battery setup for arenas, yards and fields
Portrait and commercial shooters working with horses, riders and owners on location
Studios that need a portable but fully featured “outdoor studio” for horses, pets and lifestyle work
Photographers moving beyond single-flash setups into shaped, multi-light equine portraits
3 × Godox AD400Pro II battery flashes – 400 Ws each, wide power range, TTL/HSS capable (with the appropriate XPROII trigger variant)
1 × 90 cm QR-P90T parabolic softbox + dedicated grid – punchy, controlled key light
2 × 30×90 cm premium umbrella strip softboxes with grids – tidy side and rim light on horse and rider
2 × 3 m professional C-stands with detachable turtle bases – rock-solid support on location
1 × Reclined 2-in-1 boom stand – overhead or off-axis light placement
1 × Godox XPROII TTL trigger with Bluetooth – camera-mounted control for the whole system (camera-specific version supplied as required)
Three AD400Pro II heads – flexible outdoor power
The AD400Pro II units are the backbone of the kit:
400 Ws output per head – plenty for outdoor fill and key on horses and riders
Wide power adjustment range so you can work from bright midday conditions down to dusk
Battery powered, so you can shoot in arenas, schooling fields or stable yards without cables or generators
Built-in 2.4 GHz radio for reliable triggering and integration with the wider Godox system
With three heads you can easily run:
Key light on horse and rider
Separate rim or kicker to carve out shape
Background or accent light for jumps, trees, stables, dust or atmosphere
90 cm QR-P90T parabolic softbox + grid – controlled key on horse and rider
The QR-P90T 90 cm parabolic softbox provides:
A focused, slightly punchy quality that suits muscle definition, tack and coat detail
Quick-release construction for rapid set-up and pack-down on location
A dedicated grid to keep the beam tight – ideal when you want to light the subject without flooding the environment
Use it as your main key light for hero portraits in the yard, or as a strong off-axis source for dramatic arena shots and action images.
Two 30×90 cm premium strip softboxes with grids – clean side and rim light
The 30×90 cm strip softboxes with grids are perfect for:
Rim lighting either side of horse and rider to define outlines, manes and tails
Controlled side light that doesn’t flare into the lens or spill onto backgrounds
Adding separation between your subject and darker trees, hedges, fences or buildings
The included grids help you keep the beams tight and deliberate, even when working relatively close on a busy yard.
3 m C-stands + Reclined 2-in-1 boom stand – built for real-world locations
3 m Professional C-Stands (pair)
Tall enough to place softboxes above eye level for natural-looking light on riders
Spring loaded for safer adjustments
Detachable turtle bases for easier transport and more flexible positioning around fencing, jumps and stable doors
Reclined 2-in-1 Boom Stand
Converts from a standard stand into a boom arm
Perfect for an overhead key on the rider, a top hair light, or a light placed just out of frame while keeping hardware away from hooves
Ideal when you want light from slightly behind or above without stands creeping into shot
Together, these supports give you the reach and flexibility that equestrian work genuinely needs.
XPROII TTL trigger – central control
The Godox XPROII TTL trigger:
Sits on the camera hotshoe and gives group and power control over all three AD400Pro II heads
Supports TTL and High-Speed Sync (with the correct camera-mount variant), which is useful in rapidly changing outdoor light
Includes Bluetooth connectivity for integration with supporting apps and future workflows
The kit is supplied with the appropriate XPROII version to match your camera system, keeping the bundle brand-agnostic.
Truly portable studio – everything runs on batteries and packs down into manageable components for car or 4×4
Three-light flexibility – build anything from clean, natural fill to dramatic, cinematic equine portraits
Location-ready hardware – C-stands, boom and quick-release modifiers chosen with real yards, arenas and showgrounds in mind
Consistent, repeatable results – once you’ve dialled in a setup, it’s easy to recreate it on future shoots
Fully compatible with the wider Godox ecosystem, so you can add more heads, background lights or continuous units later
Over-backlighting the horse
It’s easy to make the rim light too strong, which can blow out the mane and tail. Start with your key light first, then bring in the strips at lower power and slowly increase until you see just a clean edge.
Key light placed too low
If the main softbox is at rider eye level or below, shadows fall upwards and the horse’s head can look flat. Aim to have the 90 cm parabolic slightly above eye level, angled down towards horse and rider.
Stands too close to hooves
Horses move. Give yourself margin. C-stands and the boom should be positioned so a small step from the horse doesn’t put them in danger of knocking hardware.
Using all three lights when the scene needs two
Sometimes a simpler look is stronger. Don’t be afraid to switch one head off and run a clean key + rim setup if the background is already interesting.
Q1: Is 400 Ws powerful enough for outdoor equestrian portraits?
Yes. Three 400 Ws heads provide plenty of output for single horses, horse-and-rider portraits and small groups, even in bright conditions. Most of the time you’ll be using the extra power for shaping and flexibility, not just brute force.
Q2: Do I have to use all three lights on every shoot?
No. A very common setup is:
1 × AD400Pro II in the 90 cm parabolic as main key, and
1 × AD400Pro II in a 30×90 strip as rim or background light.
The third head is there for when you want extra separation, background accents or more creative looks, but the kit works perfectly as a 1- or 2-light setup.
Q3: Will this kit work with my camera brand?
Yes. The XPROII trigger series is available for all major camera mounts. The kit is supplied with the appropriate XPROII version to match your camera system, while the AD400Pro II heads themselves are completely cross-platform.
Q4: Can I mix these lights with my existing Godox gear?
Yes. The AD400Pro II units sit inside the standard Godox 2.4 GHz radio ecosystem, so they can be triggered and controlled alongside other compatible Godox flashes and battery heads.
Q5: How portable is this kit for one person?
It’s designed so a single photographer can manage it:
All three heads are battery powered,
The QR-P90T and strip softboxes are quick to open and collapse, and
The C-stands have detachable turtle bases for easier loading in and out of vehicles.
For larger or windier setups a second pair of hands is helpful, but a solo shooter can comfortably run a simplified 1–2 light version of the kit.
