The piece is called ‘Nesting’, to describe both the human and bird like natural instinct to make a home their own.
Chessie used a first edition 1969 copy of Finches in Color by George W. Noreen for the images of the birds. This book explains all there is to know about finches and how to take care of them. The use of the finches is a nod to The Roost’s recognisable logo.
The various tile-shaped patterns were found in a number of different interior magazines from the 1960s, cut out and fit together to create a mosaic-like background.
