This Moulin-a-Vent from Olivier Merlin is drinking beautifully with flavours and aromas not unlike a red burgundy. Made from vines planted in 1933, Olivier only uses horses for ploughing in the vineyard, not destemmed and aged for 18 months in barrels. Smokey nose with some berry and spice, open on the palate with sweet berry fruits along with spice and just a hint of cedar. Perfect drinking now, though no hurry.
"Vinified without any destemming, the 2019 Moulin-à-Vent La Rochelle bursts with aromas of sweet berries, pomegranate, peonies and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with lively acids and powdery tannins, it's pure and charming, concluding with a fragrant finish." 92 pts William Kelley The Wine Advocate
