What is a beckoning cat?

Since the end of the Edo period (1603-1868), many Japanese people have loved the beckoning cat as a lucky charm that brings good fortune, attracts many customers, and brings success to their business.

The cat with its left hand raised is called “Hito-mekiki” (inviting people to come to one's house), and brings prosperity and good fortune. A cat with its right hand raised is said to bring money and happiness.

In the Feng Shui series, each color also has a different meaning. Blue is for academic improvement and traffic safety, red for romantic fulfillment, and black for protection from evil and disease.

What is Edo Mokumegome Dolls?

Mokumekomi is a term that originated from the process of digging narrow grooves in the folds of a costume or the border of a piece of cloth, and “kimekomi” the cloth into these grooves.

The technique of making dolls was introduced to Edo (present-day Tokyo) and “Edo Mokumegome Dolls” were born in Kyoto during the Genbun period (1736-41).

The pattern of the fabric is different for each doll.
