The fine folks at Dr. Z updated the Z-28 a few years ago and the latest version is a fantastic EF86 driven combo that sits in a league all its own. Using an EF-86 in the preamp gives you a unique voicing that's different from other amps, it's a powerful tube that is full of harmonics and character. When running the amp clean it's a chimey, musical amp and pushing the input Volume control yields a breakup that doesn't fall apart. The overdriven sounds are further shapes by it's pair of treble and bass controls. All of that is funneled through a Post-Phase Inverter Master Volume that let's you crank the preamp without peeling paint. By the by these combos come in any color you like, so long as it's Red.
