The Green and Golden Bell Frog (Litoria aurea) is not extinct, but it is considered endangered and has disappeared from much of its former range. Once common across southeastern Australia, including Sydney, its populations declined sharply due to habitat loss, pollution, introduced predators like the mosquito fish, and disease such as chytrid fungus. Today, the species survives in fragmented wetland habitats and isolated pockets. While some local populations are now extinct, conservation programs are working to secure its future.
