Acothane DW is a Solvent Free Polyurethane Coating for water tank lining and relining. This product is approved for use in public water supplies. It forms a corrosion and also erosion resistant protective coating for the refurbishment of all types of water and liquid retaining structures.
Use this product on concrete, steel and also glass reinforced plastic (GRP). It forms a long lasting and water tight solution to tank lining, with outstanding physical properties in terms of flexural strength, tensile strength, impact and abrasion resistance.
Use for metallic, cementitious, composite and GRP tanks, vessels, reservoirs ,pipelines, pipe bends and random lengths, valves and fittings holding or transporting drinking water. As well as waste water sewage and sludge and most trade effluent tanks, vessels and bund areas.
Acothane DW complies with the requirements regarding controlled manufacturing and long term independent testing approvals for drinking water used for public consumption together with the production of heavy duty coatings which come into contact with food.
Steel: Blast clean to SA 2½ (ISO 8501-1) to achieve a sharp angular profile of 50–75 microns. Coat immediately after preparation to prevent flash rusting.
Concrete: Minimum 28 days cure, free of laitance, dust, oil and contaminants. Prepare by vacuum blasting, grinding or similar mechanical means. Surface must be structurally sound and dry.
Moisture Testing: Ensure moisture content is below 75% RH before application.
General: All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from dust or contaminants prior to coating.
Type: Two-pack solvent-free polyurethane
Finish: Smooth, gloss
Colours: Blue, Grey, Cream
Pack Sizes: 2L & 4L units
Mix Ratio: Pre-measured base and hardener supplied
Volume Solids: Approx. 100%
Film Thickness: 500μm DFT per coat
Theoretical Coverage: 1m2 @ 1000 microns
Pot Life: 30 minutes at 20°C
Overcoating Interval: 1.5–24 hours depending on temperature
Full Cure: 7 days at 20°C
Temperature Range: Apply between 5°C and 35°C, surface must be 3°C above dew point
Chemical Resistance: Excellent against a wide range of aqueous solutions, sewage, oils and mild chemicals
Approvals: WRAS & DWI approved for potable water contact
Mixing: Pour the hardener into the base and mix mechanically with a slow-speed drill and paddle for at least 3 minutes until uniform. Do not part-mix.
Application: Apply by brush, roller or spray to achieve specified film build. For tank linings, work systematically to ensure complete coverage.
Number of Coats: Typically 2 coats to achieve full protection.
Recoating: Apply second coat once the first has reached firm cure (typically 6–24 hours at 20°C). Do not exceed maximum overcoat interval without surface abrasion.
Curing: Allow 7 days at 20°C for full cure before immersion in water.
Environment: Substrate and air temperature must be at least 5°C. Maximum relative humidity 85%.
Cleaning: Use appropriate solvent or thinner immediately after application.
