Disgorged in August 2018 with less than six grams per liter dosage, the 2009 Grand Cru Millésime Coline & Candice is a blend of equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the village of Verzy. It was fermented in barrel without malolactic, and the wine is quite marked by its contact with wood, exhibiting an attractive bouquet of crisp yellow orchard fruit and orange rind framed by overtones of vanillin and creamy oak lactones. Medium to full-bodied, muscular and incisive, it's concentrated and structured, with a racy spine of acidity and a long, gently phenolic and oak-inflected finish. The overt barrel influence depresses my score a little, but the raw materials here are clearly quite interesting.
