The Extech MN35 and MN36 are compact Digital Mini MultiMeters that combine the core electrical measurement functions of a handheld DMM with an integrated thermocouple temperature function. The MN35 is a manual-ranging instrument, while the MN36 is an autoranging instrument; both share the same mini form factor, large easy-to-read digital display, protective rubber holster, and tilt stand.
A digital multimeter is one of the most universal diagnostic tools on an electronics bench, letting a technician measure voltage, current, and resistance from a single handheld instrument. This family extends that core toolkit with a Type K thermocouple temperature function and a Data Hold control that locks the present reading in the display for easier note-taking and harder-to-reach measurement points.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000-square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois.
Extech Instruments Corporation became part of FLIR Systems in 2007. FLIR Systems was subsequently acquired by Teledyne Technologies in 2021, placing the Extech brand within the Teledyne family of test and measurement companies.
The Digital Mini MultiMeter family comprises two models that share a common compact body, display, and accessory set but differ in their ranging method and measurement function set. The MN35 is the manual-ranging model, and the MN36 is the autoranging model.
Both models cover AC/DC voltage to 600 V, DC current to 10 A, resistance with continuity and diode functions, and Type K thermocouple temperature measurement to 1400°F (750°C), and both share the same dimensions, weight, protective rubber holster, and tilt stand.

As the manual-ranging model, the MN35 adds a 9 V and 1.5 V battery test function and is powered by a single 9 V battery.
The primary differences between the two models are ranging method and the set of available measurement functions. The MN35 is manual-ranging and includes a 9 V and 1.5 V battery test function. The MN36 is autoranging and adds AC current, capacitance, and frequency measurement functions that the MN35 does not provide.
The two models also differ in power source: the MN35 runs on a single 9 V battery, while the MN36 runs on two AAA batteries. See the comparison table for the per-model measurement ranges, resolutions, and basic accuracy figures.
The MN35 measures resistance to 20MΩ, while the MN36 measures resistance to 40MΩ.
