With a teal purplish blue unlike any turquoise stone and an iridescence different from what's seen in opal, this 1.34 carat Mexican fire agate is a small sample of what rare fire agate material looks like. While fire agate itself is scarce, well-saturated blue and purple stones are some of the hardest to come by; the colors of fire agate form in microthin layers, with blues and purples being the thinnest. Few lapidarists are able to maximize the potential of these particularly finicky layers, often resulting in complete loss of the color or undesired dead spots. The cutter was quite successful with this attempt.
