Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Lima, international gateway to Peru. These next few days are packed with adventure, but tonight, we’ll meet you upon arrival at the Lima airport and take you to your hotel for a good night’s rest after your flight.

Day 2:

Trujillo Flight & City Tour

After breakfast, you will be taken in a private transfer to the airport for your flight from Lima to Trujillo. Upon arrival in Peru’s third-largest city, you will be greeted by our transfer staff and taken to your hotel.

After checking in at your hotel, your guide will pick you up to visit the main attractions in Trujillo. The tour begins at the Plaza de Armas, which is among the most beautiful squares in Peru due to its colorful colonial architecture and the mustard-colored cathedral. You will visit the 17th-century Trujillo Wall, built to defend against pirate attacks, and the Iturregui Palace, a 19th-century villa.

Later, you’ll head about 7 km outside the city to visit the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon of the Moche culture, where you’ll see the amazing remains of one of Peru’s early civilizations.

In the afternoon, after your tour, you will return to your hotel and can enjoy some well-deserved rest.

Day 3:

El Brujo Museum and Lady of Cao / Huaca Rajada

You will be picked up from your hotel in Trujillo by our driver and guide representative. Then, you will board our private vehicle and head north towards the Chicama Valley. The Archaeological Complex is located approximately 60 kilometers from the city of Trujillo, on the right bank of the Chicama River, facing the Pacific Ocean, in the district of Magdalena de Cao. After passing through green sugarcane fields, you will arrive at the Brujo archaeological site, one of the most important religious and political centers of the Moche culture. The El Brujo Archaeological Complex is mainly formed by the pyramids of Cao Viejo and Huaca Cortada, and you will continue the tour to visit the other attractions. At the end of the tour, you will be taken back to the hotel.

Day 4:

Bus to Chiclayo & Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum

Today begins after breakfast with a journey to Chiclayo (3-4 hours by bus). Once you have checked in at your hotel, you will meet your guide to visit the Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum, located approximately 10 km from Chiclayo in the colonial city of Lambayeque.

This impressive three-story museum is shaped like a pyramid and documents the discovery in 1987 of the tomb of the Lord of Sipán.

In the afternoon, you will return to your hotel and have the rest of the day free to enjoy at your own pace.

Day 5:

Valley of the Pyramids & Huaca Rajada

After breakfast, you will meet your guide to visit the important archaeological sites around Chiclayo. You will start at Túcume, also known as the Valley of the Pyramids. It is a vast complex of adobe pyramids built by the Sican people around the year 1000 AD, which were later used by successive civilizations, including the Incas. Túcume is composed of 26 large adobe pyramids and is believed to have been a pilgrimage center.

Next, you will continue to the Moche archaeological site of Huaca Rajada, where the tomb of the Lord of Sipán was discovered in 1987. This find is considered the largest funerary treasure ever discovered in the Americas.

In the afternoon, you will conclude the tour and return to your accommodation in Chiclayo.

Day 6:

Flight to Jaén / Gocta Lodge

After breakfast, you will be taken to the Chiclayo airport for your flight to Jaén. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a transfer representative at the airport and taken to the lodge, which is about a 3-hour drive away. You will arrive at your destination in the late afternoon.

The exclusive Gocta Lodge is located amidst beautiful green mountain scenery with spectacular views of the famous Gocta waterfall. The lodge features an outdoor pool, a restaurant, and all rooms have magnificent views of the waterfall.

Enjoy the rest of the day by relaxing at the pool, exploring the surroundings, taking photos of the spectacular landscape, or simply soaking in the charming atmosphere of the place.

Day 7:

Tour to the Karajia Sarcophagi

Transfer from the lodge towards the province of Luya passing through towns like Cohechan, Chocta, and Cruz Pata. After a 25-minute walk, you will reach the Karajia Sarcophagi, a set of funerary statues located on an inaccessible rocky cliff. These statues belong to the pre-Inca Chachapoya culture, and this form of burial is considered unique in the world.

Upon returning, you will have a regional typical lunch in the town of Lamud, and then visit the Quiocta Cave, located 25 minutes away by vehicle. This cave has a depth of 550 meters and is a place where you will observe stalagmites, stalactites of different shapes and sizes, as well as many scattered human remains throughout the site, as this cave was used as a cemetery for pre-Hispanic populations. Return to the lodge.

Day 8:

Kuelap

Today, after breakfast, you will meet your guide for an approximately one-hour journey to Chachapoyas, where you will begin a full-day tour to visit the impressive fortress of Kuelap. The Kuelap ruins are located at 3000 meters above sea level and are one of the most important archaeological sites in the northern Andes region. Surrounded by green landscapes, this complex was built by the Chachapoya people. It consists of 400 stone houses and is surrounded by an outer wall. As the original home of the “cloud warriors,” Kuelap proudly stands as one of the largest stone monuments in the world.

Upon arriving at the Kuelap parking lot, you will embark on a approximately 30-minute hike to the fortress. The total duration of the tour is approximately 8 hours.

After the tour, you will return to the lodge in the afternoon for your last night there.

Day 9:

Gocta Waterfalls

After enjoying a delicious buffet breakfast, you will begin the excursion to the stunning waterfall located 6 km from the lodge. With a height of 771 meters, this waterfall is the third highest in the world. The hike will start at 8 in the morning directly from the lodge. The one-way trail is 5.5 km long, and after approximately 2.5 hours, you will reach the base of the waterfall. You will also have the opportunity to swim at that location. During the excursion, a snack box will be provided. In total, the excursion will last approximately 5-6 hours.

As an additional option, you can rent a horse and cover two-thirds of the way on horseback. Then, you will continue on foot for the remaining stretch. On the hiking trail, you will cross sugarcane fields and enter a cloud forest covered with orchids, lichens, and mosses. Upon reaching the base of the waterfall, you will experience the incredible force of the falling water up close.

In the afternoon, you will return to your lodge. The rest of the day will be at your disposal to relax and enjoy as you wish.

Day 10:

Arrival in Cusco

Say goodbye to the jungle as you return to the city and to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, you will be picked up at the airport and settle in for an afternoon of rest and easy exploration as you begin to adjust to the altitude.

Situated at 3,400 meters (11,150 feet) above sea level, Cusco is a beautiful city of white-washed walls, some with Inca stones, red-tiled roofs, and soaring churches nestled in a fertile mountain basin.

Take a stroll around the historic center to admire the magnificent colonial architecture and the remnants of Inca walls. Be sure to head to the Plaza de Armas to experience the social heart of this bustling city.

You will also learn more about the cuisine of the region’s ancestors and use cooking utensils that were common at that time and are still used by some rural families. After cooking and enjoying the meal you’ve prepared, you will have time to relax and take a walk in the surroundings or around the countryside house.
